An all female wedding party in Algiers. The sister of the bride on her second outfit change of the day. The bride will have changed at least seven times as is the custom. Algiers, Algeria. June 2014.
A portrait of Zoya, whose daughter Ainura was kidnapped the previous night from this room by four men. Although devastated at the loss of her daughter, Zoya, a widower, subsequently gave in to pressure from neighbours and relatives to accept the kidnap as a Kyrgyz tradition.

This picture makes me feel sad as it is everything I was looking for but couldn't find or get near to in a project that never materialised but I think about often. Alice Springs, (what a potent place) Australia 2012.
Zelda, Erian and their daughter. This was part of a story on bride kidnapping which is prevalent in the region. Erian did kidnap Zelda as his bride but it was a consensual performance of the tradition done in order to avoid an expensive wedding. Issk-Kul Oblast, Kyrgyzstan. October 2009
