| Jackie Dewe Mathews was born in London in 1978. Following a degree in philosophy she spent five years in the film industry as a freelance camera assistant on feature films and commercials. Her interest in cinematography informs her documentary photography practise which she was able to develop during the MA in Photojournalism at London College of Communication in 2007. Since graduating she has had work published in The Guardian, The Financial Times, The Telegraph, The Sunday Times and Stern. In 2008 she was awarded the Guardian and Royal Photographic Society Joan Wakelin bursary for a social documentary photographic project. In 2009 she received an Honorable Mention at the New York Photo Award and was listed by the Magenta Foundation, Flash Forward for Emerging Photographers. In 2010 she has been a finalist for the Ojodepez Award for Human Values, Photo Espan and runner up for the Julia Margaret Cameron Award, WPGA. |
